boy kibble
It seems that young people all go through a stage where they no longer have the family to sustain them but on the other hand they have neither the time nor the skills to cook for themselves. This results in a poor diet. They are also conscious, if they are male, of the pressure to maintain a certain muscular body image, and, if they are female, of retaining a good figure.
The solution to this in the case of the boys is boy kibble, a simple dish comprising fried mincemeat mixed in with boiled rice. It can be cooked quickly and requires no skill. It can be cooked in bulk and stored for a number of meals. It is cheap. It supplies protein for muscle. It does come out looking like dog kibble but who cares. (Nutritionists say just add a tin of beans or corn or some frozen veggies for fibre and it is fine. Oh and change the white rice to brown rice. I can’t see that happening).
The girls, on the other hand, are going for a meal that requires no cooking but is a kind of smorgasbord of whatever they can find in the fridge and the kitchen. So the girl dinner has bread or crackers, cheese, pickles, fruits, savoury tidbits and snacks, all tastefully presented. The girls argue that if they have a limited amount that they can eat before putting on weight, then they should eat what they like rather than bow to convention about what is appropriate for dinner. Neither meat and three veg nor the food pyramid is of any concern to them.
