MIND diet

It’s been a while since we had a new fashionable diet.  This one is a reworking of the Mediterranean diet —  lots of veggies and nuts, a bit of fish and poultry all slathered in olive oil.

The focus is on protecting the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation and thus staving off dementia.  MIND diet is the short version of Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay.

US nutritionists have refashioned the Mediterranean diet, thought of as preventing high blood pressure, to serve the needs of the brain.  They have removed items high in saturated and trans fats, such as pastries, red meat, cheese, butter and margarine, and fried foods. Studies have shown that it helps — a bit.  It could delay brain ageing 2-5 years.
