pump track

The announcement of a new pump track in Sydney alerted me to the term.  There has been a surge in the creation of pump tracks over the last couple of years so it follows that there is a growing familiarity with them.  Whereas skate parks focus on the tricks that riders can do and thus provide rails and ramps and similar features, the pump track is a continuous loop with smooth undulating hills and banked turns intended to be managed by generating speed with body movement (pumping) without pedalling or pushing.  High quality pump tracks are asphalted, but they can be just dirt tracks.
