AI doomerism

This is the belief that AI development will lead to the extinction of humanity, or at the very least, to some terrible catastrophe for humanity, because AI will rapidly become smarter than us and become a kind of superpower (the AI god) which could regard human beings as competition or a threat. Or an irritating nuisance.

There are those who counter this view by saying that there is no clear scientific pathway to this outcome.  Speculation of this sort by AI doomers just leads us to overlook the immediate and very real risks that an AI-based social change might bring, such as large-scale loss of jobs.  The AI gloomers are worried about this.

There is a rush to build a framework for AI development that will protect us all.  This brings us to longtermism, that is, the moral responsibility that we all have to protect future generations from harm.
