human-generated journalism

Suddenly there are various people in the community who see their jobs being taken over by a chatbot, and among them are journalists. It seems that a number of people have taken to testing out ChatGPT, the latest piece of software in this area, and have found that it can churn out an article on what to do in Sydney or which are the best places for breakfast in Melbourne without any trouble at all.

These are pieces that are thought of as fillers, or more formally ‘commodity news’, and they are typically a round-up of easily available facts set out in a cliched style. The answer to this is to encourage and reward human-generated journalism which guides the reader through the information with advice and opinions, which includes interviews that are perceptive requiring a degree of empathy and intuition which a bot does not have, and which delves deeper into the facts to find something new.  There will be an increasing focus on the value of human-generated news.
