spigarello

The search for new fruit and vegetables goes on, partly because we all like something new, partly as a response to climate change and the need to find crops that will do better than the current ones which are languishing.  Spigarello is one such new vegetable, a form of kale with soft, buttery leaves which can be chopped up raw in a salad.  The plant has broccoli-like florets which have given rise to the name leaf broccoli. And it seems that in borrowing the name from Italian we have misspelled it. It should be spigiarello.
