Khaled is a wahash

 If you are not a native speaker of a language you can make some serious mistakes as you try to guess the meanings of words, particularly if you do not have sufficient context or the advice of someone who is a native speaker.

 Recently I went for a walk that took me into a suburb that I had never visited before.  A graffiti on the boarding along the railway line caught my eye.

Khaled is a wahash.

 I had no idea what was meant by wahash but I assumed that it was not good.  I don’t know why I plumped for a negative connotation but that is what sprang to mind.

 Back home I did some research on wahash and discovered it was an Arabic word meaning ‘a beast’ , that is, an animal that is large and brutish such as a an ox or a wild horse.  So I am guessing that Khaled is a wahash is the equivalent of saying Khaled is a stud.

 Obviously there is a dialect of English being spoken in this suburb which is foreign to me.  It would be nice to study it but I would need a native speaker to be my guide.
