chatfishing

If only Christian de Neuvillette had had AI he wouldn’t have had to ask Cyrano de Bergerac to write his love letters to Roxane for him, and life wouldn’t have got complicated. What is happening now is similar but with an important difference.  People on dating apps are asking AI (rather than a friend) to present them in the most perfect way possible.  The practice is called chatfishing, a blend of ChatGpt and catfishing (the practice of luring people online into a romantic relationship while adopting a fictitious persona). It’s quite possible that, just as Cyrano beneath the balcony whispered lines for Christian to use on Roxane, your AI assistant could feed you lines to use in real conversations, but you would think that eventually real life would catch up with fantasy, and a chatfisher would have to take the romantic plunge on their own.
