Wasian

Racial labels and stereotypes are a touchy subject but to add to the standard themes we now have the labels for people of mixed heritage.  Wasian is a blend of white and Asian.  As is often the case with such terms, Wasians themselves are divided over whether the term is a badge of pride or a negative label implying racial ambiguity.  For Wasians who like the word, it is not just a reference to their biracial status but to a blended culture that is unique.

Similarly Blasians — Black Asians — will claim a rich cultural legacy coming from the Black American and Asian communities.  The term Blasian is more playful than Afro-American and has a lighter touch. Again there are those who feel that it is restrictive and negative.

Finally into this group we can throw whack (sometimes wack)  for  a blend of white and Black.  This one originated in a coming-of-age movie Free Style (2008) where the little sister of the hero asks him Are we white or Black? The father is white American, the mother Mexican.  Cale (the hero) defuses the situation by saying jokingly that they are whack. There seemed to be universal agreement that the movie was terrible but that one line lived on and there is evidence of whack being used here today.
