ding ding

Scambling (scam + gambling) is a broad term for any fraudulent online gambling.  Speculating on crypto currencies is described as a form of scambling.  The particular type of scambling that has become the scourge of remote Indigenous communities is one that they have called ding ding because of the sound of pokie machines used in the game.   At first it seems harmless.  They begin with a free round after which they are asked to pay a small deposit in a PayID account.  Initially they seem to be winning.  The site offers ways in which to share the vision of their winnings with others so that word of mouth through the community attracts others to the games.

But when they go to claim their winnings they are confronted by a request for more money to be deposited.  And so it goes.

These small deposits are thought to be a sign of micro money laundering or micro laundering which avoids moving large amounts of money that might attract attention, instead managing a multitude of small movements of money that are beneath the radar of the financial watchdogs.
