main character energy

I dealt with main character syndrome in 2021, a term with negative connotations.  A person who sees themselves as the main character in their life story sees everyone else as playing supporting roles.  This is tedious for everyone else and we have had many ways of expressing this over the years.  Centre of the universe.  It’s all about ME! (Or it’s not all about YOU!)

But on social media it became important to have your own brand. Initially people who ventured to take a starring role in this world felt the need for the content of their posting to be about something else, but gradually it was apparent that the content could be just yourself.  Every little moment of your life could be presented as if it was important.   If you were particularly successful in creating this persona online you could become an influencer but products that you supported were secondary to your personal story.  So main character energy became the confidence and style with which you presented your life story. A positive thing. And you can achieve it by following the steps outlined in the right book (and there are many of them like the one above).

The downside of this ‘it IS all about me’ approach to the world is that, if pushed too far, it justifies self-aggrandisement at the expense of everyone else. Now who could that be?
