brofessional

This is a term that has been part of American English for ten years, one which we are only just acquiring.  It is, of course, a blend of bro and professional and describes someone who is a confident player in the business world, so confident that he can be cool as well.  Particularly if his work is IT-related.

In Urban Slang a brofessional is a man who devotes himself to macho pursuits — but that’s just Urban Dictionary’s view.

Perhaps it is because it is only now that bro is becoming mainstream in Australian English that we are open to the brofessional. Perhaps it is the more recent coinages involving bro — like broligarchy and bro-tocracy — that make us more accepting of it.  It doesn’t have high frequency in Australian English but I did find a business registered in 2017 that called itself The Brofessionals. It does building maintenance and plumbing.
