micro-retirement

There are established procedures for taking a break from your job.  There is long-service leave and the sabbatical.  In both these situations you retain your job and your employer continues to pay you, even if the pay is scaled down somewhat.  And certainly in the sabbatical you are possibly undertaking some new training so your mind is still on your job.

The micro-retirement is different because you finish your job and end your relationship with your employer, as you would if you had retired.  Obviously there is an element of risk in this but the benefit is the opportunity to recharge your system by having a complete rest.  After this small period of restoration to health and good spirits, you can set about finding a new job. Gen Z is arguing that this is their only protection against burnout.
