The exciting news is that the first state championship in Australia will be held near Brisbane this year.  Why do I hesitate to say that hobby horsing is a sport? It does, after all, involve a fair degree of athleticism to jump hurdles in a horsy way and perform the fancy manoeuvres of dressage and to go on hobby horse endurance rides, but that is just half of it.  As much attention goes into the creation of a hobby horse (you really should make your own) and the development of a personality for it as goes into the physical training of the rider.  I would fall at the first hurdle because I lack the craft skills to create a horse, but I could cheat and buy one.  My horse and I would not have the same bond, however.  Would a hobby horse that you have bought ever really trust you? This ‘sport’ originated in Finland and gained popularity thanks to a Finnish film called Hobbyhorse Revolution.  More recently it has become a hot topic on TikTok.  Fun, fantasy and fitness is the catch cry of the hobby horse rider.
