doom loop

Initially this was a term used in economics to describe the situation in which the failure of one aspect of the economy leads to other failures which collectively bring about an economic catastrophe.  This pattern, of one part affecting others which in turn impact on others until the whole system collapses, has been applied to the world undergoing climate change.  If the ice melts, that will raise the sea level which will cause destruction along coastlines and, in turn, affect other things, and so it goes until the world is in chaos.\Another kind of doom loop is the one that happens when countries are so preoccupied and spend so much money on recovering from climate-change-induced disasters that they no longer have money to spend on decarbonisation so the world gallops towards climate disaster.

We are not in a doom loop yet but the message is that we need to watch out for it.
