the Mozzies

These are the volunteer firefighters who work alongside the Royal Fire Service. In some parts of the country they are called the Black Ops Brigade. They are locals who improvise their firefighting equipment. They have the advantage of being a mosquito army, light and mobile, and able to penetrate areas that the more cumbersome appliances of the RFS cannot reach.

 The Mozzies are designated by their town or region, so  we have had the Mongarlowe Mozzies, the Araluen Mozzies, and so on. These are mozzies that everyone is grateful to have around.
