There is a new trend in funerals where people choose to conduct the ceremony in a park or on the beach or wherever they choose. There is some concern that the general public who are also at the park or the beach may be startled to find themselves witnessing a funeral for which they were not prepared, so councils are engaged in sorting out the rules for this new procedure. There is an increased awareness that we have regulated death, if not out of existence then at least out of sight. Home funerals are an attempt to make death more a part of life and to give greater intimacy to the ceremony. The outdoor funeral takes this one step further.
