intergenerational trauma

This is a form of trauma can have repercussions that carry over from one generation to the next, through the mechanism of post traumatic stress disorder.  It is why Indigenous people suffering shock and loss, as with the loss of their children, cannot just get over it. Nor can their descendants.

It is also called transgenerational trauma.

It differs from historical trauma (or collective trauma) which is the residue of trauma residing in the collective consciousness of a community and carried on through its continued existence with negative effects.
