flopbuster

This is a blended word combining flop and blockbuster.  It is therefore a film or TV program intended to be a big production and a big moneymaker which turns out to be a nothing.  The in-depth analysis of the failures of the ABC produced by Sky News with Chris Kenny as host was a churlish attempt to rain on the ABC’s parade, being aired as the ABC celebrated its 90th birthday. It has also been described as a flopbuster by Russel Marks in The Monthly.  It seems a useful word and there are those who take a perverse interest in flopbusters as a genre.
