revenge travel

This is the slightly odd idea that we will get our revenge on the coronavirus by doing massive amounts of travel as soon as we are able.  It is perhaps modelled on the revenge spending which occurred in China in the 1980s as it emerged from the austerities of the Cultural Revolution.   Chinese people spent up big once they were allowed to do so.  The term has popped up again in the context of the online shopping which has burgeoned in response to the restrictions imposed to fight COVID-19.

 There are some of us who feel the loss of tourism and travel keenly and who are already planning their big trips for 2021.  They may well find there are fewer places to go and more forms to fill in, but the relief they will feel as they finally step onto a plane again will be worth it.
