hygiene marshal

A new figure of authority in our COVID world is the hygiene marshal, a person clad in eye-catching hi-vis clothing who controls social distancing, cleaning and personal hygiene with the application of hand sanitiser at venues such as small hotels, restaurants, gyms and the like.  It is interesting that the most common spelling is marshall rather than marshal. The full title is COVID-safe hygiene marshal.

 Of course the friendly version of this is the COVID sommelier, the person at the entrance to a restaurant who takes you through the routines of signing in, applying hand sanitiser, and settling into a socially distanced seating arrangement. But some venues require a firmer hand it seems.
